FREE BUS RIDE FOR VARSITY STUDENTS, WOMEN
LUCKNOW: The state government will provide free bus rides to university and college students in the state. A beginning in this regard was made by flagging off 10 such buses for the Lucknow University students here on Tuesday. The free rides to students would be currently available in Lucknow and Allahabad. The students will have to show their identity cards to avail the free ride, said minister of state for transport (independent charge) Yasir Shah.

Making this announcement, minister of state for transport (independent charge) Yasir Shah said on the occasion of International Women’s Day, the government had already announced free ride to women on government buses while on radio taxis, they would get 50 per cent discount. The UP State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) will operate special pink buses between Lucknow and Anand Vihar in Ghaziabad for women passengers who will be given one additional free coupon which can be used any time within a month.
UPSRTC MD Ravindra Naik also gifted free coupons to five women passengers in the Delhibound bus at the Kaiserbagh bus station in evening.
Shah said in the first phase, the free rides to students would be available in Lucknow and Allahabad cities and later on, it would be extended to other cities.
“In Allahabad, there would be six buses and in Lucknow, 10 buses which will provide the facilities to students for going and returning from their colleges and universities,” the Minister said, adding that the students will have to show their identity cards to avail the free ride.
