LUCKNOW: Enraged over the death of their college mate, hundreds of students of Saroj Institute of Engineering and Technology (SIET) created ruckus at the institute here on Tuesday. The students accused the SIET management of not extending any help to the injured student which resulted in his death.

Alleging indifferent attitude of doctors, the students also ransacked Galaxy Nursing Home, where the injured student was rushed for treatment.

Ar if ,21, aB Tech third year student of SIET, was severely injured after falling from a bus near the institute’s campus at Ahimamau, Sultanpur road on the city outskirts in the wee hours of Tuesday.

The incident happened when Arif was returning to SIET from his native place in Kannauj. He had boarded a roadways bus after reaching Charbagh to reach the institute.

According to reports, one of Arif ’s college mate got a call on his mobile phone about the incident near the institute at about 1.30 am on Tuesday.

Soon, several students reached the spot and rushed Arif to nearby Galaxy Nursing Home. After doctors at the nurs- ing home allegedly remained indifferent, the students rushed Arif to Civil Hospital where he died during treatment.

As the news of Arif ’s death spread in the institute, hundreds of students created ruckus on the campus. The students pelted stones at the institute’s building and damaged a bus parked on the campus. Thereafter, a group of students reached the Galaxy Nursing home and ransacked it. They also thrashed the nursing home staff.

After venting their ire at the nursing home, students blocked the Sultanpur road, which caused traffic jam at both ends of the busy road.

When informed, cops from Go saiganj police station reached the spot and tried to persuade the students to lift the blockade. However, when students refused to relent, the cops resorted to lathi charge to disperse them.

The students have alleged that Arif was pushed from the bus after he had a tiff with the conductor over purchasing a ticket. However, there is no eyewitness of the incident, police said.

“Allegations of students are being investigated. At present, it is not even clear in which bus Arif was travelling,” said a cop investigating the case.
