LUCKNOW: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Young Indians, Lucknow chapter, has launched ‘Horn No Ok Please’ campaign to spread awareness among citizens to avoid honking and use dippers and lights to reduce noise pollution.

During the launch of the campaign on Monday, the CII also launched a poster and a car sticker carrying the message ‘Horn Not Ok Please’. The campaign is a part of CCI’s nationwide initiative to make Lucknow a smart city.

To support the campaign, three CEOs from Kochi and Kerala are on a unique road expedition ‘The Great Indian Footprint’, by a car spanning 12,000 km across 48 cities and 15 states in India including Uttar Pradesh and Bhutan in 41 days from February 14 to March 27. Mithun Aravind, CEO, A- Team Adventures, Krishna Kumar, CEO, Green Pepper Consulting and Nithin George, co-founder, QPlay Technologies have partnered with Young Indians, the youth wing of the CII. The team has taken a pledge not to honk throughout the entire stretch of 12,000 km across India.

“The ‘Horn Not Ok Please’ is a national campaign launched by the CII’s youth wing, Young Indians, against unnecessary honking and to spread awareness about noise pollution,” said Anuj Agarwal of Young Indians, Lucknow chapter. “It is a unique effort of Young Indians and as a responsible citizen we all must support this initiative. It requires nothing but a little change in our attitude,” said Smita Agarwal of Young Indians, Lucknow chapter.

Honking in traffic has the dubious distinction of being the largest noise polluter throughout the world. In Lucknow, lots of commuters indulge in honking without any purpose.

The CII and Young Indians have taken the responsibility of spreading awareness regarding noise pollution and initiating action at the community level to check increasing menace of honking by commuters.
