LUCKNOW: A 20-year-old rape victim from Atarra village in Banda on Tuesday staged a demonstration at the Gandhi statue in the state capital to demand the arrest of her alleged perpetrator.

According to reports, the girl had filed a police complaint on February 25, alleging that she had been raped by her employer in June 2015. However, the police were yet to take any action against the accused.

In her police complaint, she has said that she applied for a job with a Banda-based NGO ‘Vidya Dham Samiti’ and was appointed as a field worker. However, the director of the NGO Raja Bhaiyya Yadav allegedly raped her during her stay in Banda. She alleged that the accused also made a video clip of her and had been threatening to make it public since then.

She finally lodged an FIR against raja Bhaiyya Yadav after

she came in contact with Suman lata, the village head of Naraini in Banda. However, the police have failed to arrest him, she claimed.

Suman lata, who was also present during the protest, said the girl was afraid of even speaking about the abuse and harassment she went through in the last one year. “Now, after filing an FIR against Raja Bhaiyya, she has been constantly receiving threats but the police have done nothing to arrest him. That’s why she was forced to come to Lucknow and demand justice,” she said.
