Sahai probe tabled in upper house, oppn rejects findings

-

LUCKNOW: The one-member Justice Sahai commission report on the Muzaffarnagar riots, which was tabled on the floor of the Upper House on Tuesday, dominated the proceedings of the legislative council.

While the opposition rejecting its findings as misleading, barring the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), all other parties demanded CBI probe into the riots.

After the question hour, BSP’s Naseemuddin Siddiqui and BJP’s Hriday Narayan Dixit raised the issue saying that the findings of the Sahai commission were total eyewash.

Replying on the issue, leader of the house, Ahmad Hasan said the government should be praised for the fact it showed the courage to table the report on the floor of the house, something not done earlier by any government. He said the government would take action on the basis of the commission’s findings.

Not satisfied with the reply, the BSP members staged a walkout in protest while the BJP members trooped into the well shouting slogans taking exception to Hasan’ accusing the BJP and the RSS of having engineered the riots and vitiating the atmosphere in the country.

Dixit even dared the state government to order a CBI inquiry into Muzaffarnagar riots and send the BJP leaders to jail if they are found guilty. Dixit said the SP government was trying to save one of its ministers, who, he said, was responsible for the riots. RLD and the Congress also demanded a CBI inquiry. The members belonging to the teachers group, under the rule 105, raised the issue of security of teachers and the staff from the copy mafia. The chair directed government to look into the issue and take appropriate action.
