Woman gang-raped, infant thrown on bus floor, dies

BAREILLY: A private bus driver and a conductor were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly gangraping a woman travelling in their bus in Shishgarh area late on Monday.

The woman also alleged that the suspects snatched her 14-dayold son from her and threw him on the bus floor resulting in the infant’s death. The police initially claimed that child died due to poor health but the post-mortem report indicated that the infant died of serious head injuries.

Asked about the post-mortem report, a police officer said: “I have not received the report yet, but if it’s true then it will help us in the investigat­ion. I can’t say much at this moment.”

“We have arrested the accused and sent the woman for medical examinatio­n,” said SP (rural) Yamuna Prasad.

The police said, the woman, a resident of Rampur, visited Shahi village of Bareilly to meet her sister on Monday. The woman had reportedly come to Bareilly to take her ailing son to a doctor. After visiting the doctor, she boarded a bus for Rampur.

“The bus reached Shishgarh bus stop around 10pm. According to the woman there were very few passengers in the bus at that time. According to her complaint, the conductor and driver stopped her from getting down from the bus and later gangraped her,” the SP added. Then they dumped her and the infant at a secluded spot. “Locals informed us following which we brought her here on Tuesday morning,” the SP added. SIX-YEAR-OLD RAPED IN BALLIA VILLAGE
