She is Osho’s niece and has been giving colour to his teachings on canvas. Meet Pratiksha Apurv, 52, who practices meditative art through her spiritual, mythological, meditative and mystical paintings.

The artist is in Lucknow to receive the national art award for her painting on cosmic balance. The award would be conferred on her at Lalit Kala Akademi, Aliganj along with 14 other artists from across India on Thursday.

A staunch follower of Osho, Apurv started meditating at the age of 11 and spent a long time at Osho’s ashram in Pune. “I had no formal training in art or design, but I had been working for over a decade as a designer. I designed dresses for many prominent personalities such as Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Vinod Khanna, Zakir Hussain and Kapil Dev, but one fine morning, I decided not to do that any more and got into painting,” she said.

In 2004, Pratiksha Apurv began to paint her uncle’s teachings. “I would listen to his discourse, med- itate, imbibe what he said in his discourses and then painted my mind on canvas. That’s how I have been doing it till now,” she said.

So far, she has touched upon several subjects taught by Osho, including meditation, seven energy centers, life and death, senses, astrology, seven layers of consciousness, Upnishad, Vedas and a lot more.

Apurv claims that paintings have had healing effects. “I do spiritual art and I put in all the positive energy that I imbibe through meditations into my paintings and people who have taken my paintings often tell me that they have benefitted from them,” she claims.
