Converted youth brought back to Hindu fold

- PRADEEP SAXENA

A youth from Khair, Aligarh district, Chetan Gautam,20, reportedly converted to Islam and was brought back into the Hindu fold through ghar wapsi.

Chetan’s father Nem Chandra, 48, runs a tea stall near the local primary health centre. Sources said that it was here that Chetan came into contact with some Muslim youths.

On Saturday last, he went missing and his family filed a missing person complaint at the police station on Monday. A week later, after his family succeeded in tracing him, Chetan was located in Khair town and brought back to his house. Reportedly, Chetan was impressed by the ideas of the Muslim youth who used to frequent his father’s tea shop and decided to leave his house to convert to Islam.

Initially, his family thought that he had gone off to meet some relatives. A week later, on Saturday (March 19), Nem Chandra received information that Chetan was seen in Khair and had converted to Islam. Allegedly, Nem Chandra, with the help of some people, took Chetan to the police station. Meanwhile, Dharam Bhaiya, a leader of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) also reached the police station. Collectively, everyone persuaded Chetan to re-convert to Hinduism. It is being alleged that Chetan was lured into conversion as he was unemployed. However, Chetan has contradicted this charge and told the police that he had converted out of his own will and had also decided to reconvert on his own.
