Now, city parks to be wi-fi enabled
LUCKNOW: The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has made an ambitious plan to extend wi-fi facility to all its parks. In the days to come, these parks would not only be a ‘go-to zone’ for fitness freaks and green enthusiasts but also for smart phone and laptop users.
The corporation, under the smart city proposal, has decided to introduce this facility in eight parks falling in Qaiserbagh area that has been selected for retrofitting. Globe park, Begum Hazrat Mahal and the parks in front of Mahmoodabad house will be the first ones to go hitech.
The civic body has contacted a private company for the job. Additional municipal Commissioner PK Srivastava said that a private company had already laid down 4G network fibres in the city so the infrastructure was already in place. “Wi-Fi connectivity in city parks would take us ahead of competitors under smart city proposals,” he added.
The smart city proposals were almost ready and the same will be submitted to the state government soon, he said
Qaiserbagh has been chosen as retrofitting area by people’s vote. The area has a number of parks and the LMC wants to make the area as one of the best in the country.
“Our effort is to develop scientific temper and focus on Awadh culture and heritage for which Lucknow is known all over the world. The culture, heritage and cuisine have came up as unique selling points but if modern scientific temper is added to it then no one can beat us this time in the race for smart city,” said Srivastava. Once the experiment is successful in Qaiserbagh, all parks of the city would be equipped with Wi-Fi facility. This would help us in attractive more footfall and inject scientific temper among the citizens, he emphasised.
