SP govt will be back if people get more power, says Akhilesh
LUCK NOW: Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Monday said his government’s decision to increase the hours of electricity supply would bring the party back to power (in the 2017 assembly elections).
“If we are able to implement this decision, our government would be returned to power,” said the chief minister. The state government has committed to provide 16-hour power supply to villages and 24-hour power supply to KAVAL (Kanpur, Agra, Varanasi, Allahabad and Lucknow) towns.
Yadav was addressing the Uttar Pradesh Mini Grid Conclave that the Rockefeller Foundation had organised here on Monday.
He said the officers had assured him that there would be no ‘ifs’ about the decision and the same would be implemented sincerely.
His endeavour would be to ensure uninterrupted power supply across UP later, said the chief minister.
Yadav referred to a complaint he had received about power supply to make his point and said announcements as well as decisions of his government should not remain confined to paper.
“There was no power supply in a village in my own area (Etawah) on the occasion of Holi. This was despite announce- ment of 24-hour power supply on the festival day. When I enquired, the power supply was restored to the village. Officers should ensure that the decisions do not remain on paper,” said Yadav.
The chief minister said Uttar Pradesh would welcome all the new ideas that may come up during discussions at the conclave.
His government would extend full cooperation in setting up solar power mini grids on a larger scale, he said.
“The state government has come up with the Uttar Pradesh Mini Grid Policy 2016. More investment will help a large number of people in getting power to light a lamp in their homes,” he said.
Associate vice president, Rockefeller Foundation, Aswin Dayal said the foundation was working in India since 1920.
