I AM ‘CBI-CERTIFIED HONEST PERSON’, SAYS MULAYAM

- HT Correspondent

LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav on Tuesday charged CBI with bothering him a lot but said he came out clean and now he was a “CBI-certified honest” person. “The person who progresses from poor section of the society has to face such (CBI probe) problems. All persons should keep their papers and accounts updated otherwise CBI will frighten them,” he said. CBI had in 2013 cleared Yadav of charges that he misused his office as chief minister of Uttar Pradesh to accumulate vast amounts of wealth.

MULAYAM SAID NOT BECOMING PRIME MINISTER WAS NOT THE ONLY REGRET HE HAD, HE ALSO REGRETTED THAT HE COULD NEVER BE A ‘CM FOR FIVE YEARS’ LIKE HIS SON AKHILESH

Not wanting to take any chances that may spoil the Samajwadi Party’s 2017 poll ambitions, party national president Mulayam Singh Yadav on Tuesday called upon party leaders to “keep all documents and records up to date and proper” and never fear the CBI.

Controversial SP minister Gayatri Prasad Prajapati, who has been facing corruption charges and against whom there is a demand for CBI probe, was present at the conclave when he said so.

“The CBI harassed us for seven long years, but all its charges fell flat. The then CBI director gave us a clean chit. CBI sleuths went to every possible place. Every time we opened our front door, we found CBI people standing right there. They visited all our relatives. They even counted all the cattle we had, but could not find even one evidence to support their charges. In a CBI probe any one proven guilty is dishonest and anyone declared innocent is honest...so I too am a CBI certified honest person.” ON BJP

Mulayam said it was the same old upper caste which called the shots in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) even though prime minister Narendra Modi came from backward class.

Mulayam, who too is from backward class, was addressing a gathering at the backward castes conclave at the party office on the occasion of Maharashi Kashyam and Nishadraj Guha jayanti. He said: “Iam happy that Modi, who came from backward class, rose to become country’s prime min- ister. But in reality who holds the power at the centre? Isn’t the same class of people still dominant even now? Take a look at the ministers and MPs (of BJP). He became the PM, but any analysis will tell you who have the real power at the centre.”

Mulayam said he fought a long battle for ‘Mandal’ commission recommendation implementation that got backward class what was rightfully due to them. ON HIS REGRET

Mulayam regretted that he could never be a ‘CM for five years’ like his son Akhilesh.

He said: “I had been CM for short tenures twice and my third term was almost 4 years long, but I could never be a CM for full five year term . But this was because I was always busy in struggle. Now I am struggling for getting 17 backward castes listed on SC category. Like Yadavs, the 17 communities--Nishad, Kewat, Mallah etc--should become one powerful entity. Yadav mahasabha unified all Yadav subcastes under one umbrella. I will struggle in Parliament to get the 17 backward castes the SC status.”
