MUMBAI: A day after Mumbai police booked Rahul Raj Singh for alle gedly abetting t he suicide of his girlfriend, TV actress Pratyusha Banerjee, advocate Neeraj Gupta, who was representing Singh, withdrew from the case. Advocate Ashok Sarogi, who has taken on Rahul as his client, has now filed for anticipatory bail, the hearing for which is scheduled at Dindoshi session court. While speaking to Hindustan Times, Gupta said his values did not allow him to fight a case where a girl had died because of someone.

“My soul did not let me continue with this. What my parents have taught me goes against this. A girl has died here because of someone else and what he did,” Gupta said. Banerjee was found dead at her Goregaon apartment on April 1. She committed suicide by hanging herself, police said. Gupta added Singh was not honest since the day Banerjee died and told him that he shared a happy and healthy relationship with her. Gupta claimed he was not aware of the fights between the duo and fresh allegations that Singh used to torture her.

Singh is currently admitted at Shree Sai Hospital in Kandivli since Sunday after he complained of heavy chest pain and severe stress. He was booked for abetment of suicide and assault.
