Vendor beaten up, forced to drink urine

-

AS THE ACCUSED BELONGED TO ANOTHER COMMUNITY AND HIS SUPPORTERS INCLUDED A POLITICIAN, SUPPORT POURED IN FOR THE COMPLAINANT

A vendor of Etmadpur, Agra, caused a flutter at ‘tehsil diwas’ on Wednesday when he alleged that he was thrashed and forced to drink urine. Policemen present there admitted that the complainant was beaten up, but denied that he was forced to drink urine.

As the accused belonged to another community and his supporters included a politician, support poured in for the complainant.

The vendor, Nirottam Singh alleged he was returning home from his shop on Tuesday when he was waylaid and threatened by an elderly man.

“Later, the old man returned with half-a-dozen accomplices and abused me before giving me a sound thrashing. I was held at gunpoint and one of the murinated in my mouth. They also issued me life threats if I approached police,” Nirottam alleged.

Babita Sahu, superintendent of police (Rural), who was present at the ‘tehsil diwas’, admitted that there was a complaint of that sort and investigations were on. However, she added that the allegation that he was forced to drink urine was found to be incorrect.

“Our reports say that Nirottam Singh is a drunkard who abused the old man on Tuesday morning. The man returned with his kin and beat up Nirottam Singh, but he did not lodge a complaint,” Sahu told HT. The Etmadpur police are yet to register a case in this connection.

The circle officer of Agra’s Etmadpur Circle Abhishek Kumar Singh informed on Wednesday evening that a case has been registered on complaint lodged by Nirottam.
