Ayodhya to have memorial of Korean princess

- HT Correspondent

LUCKNOW: The holy city of Ayodhya may soon have a memorial of the Korean princess – as a mark of Indo-Korea relations. A delegation from the Republic of Korea would be in Lucknow to hold a meeting with the chief secretary along with officials of the culture department to discuss the project.

A source at the culture department said the delegation is coming with a design of the memorial that was already given a nod by the chief minister in 2015 during one of the meetings of the Korean officials with him here. The budget for the design was also released.

As per the plan, the memorial equipped with a school, a guest house, museum and other facilities would be a tourist attraction. The memorial would also highlight how the princess travelled from India to Korea around 2,000 years ago and a link between the two countries was established.

The research done on the princess and the India- Korea links would also find place in the memorial.

It is believed that Suriratna, a princess of Ayodhya, travelled to Korea to marry King Kim Suro, 2,000 years ago. Several exchange programmes of the culture department and the Republic of Korea have been undertaken in the past. In fact every year, a delegation from Korea visits Ayodhya in October to establish the relationship between the two countries.

According to sources, a team from India too would be visiting Korea in May with regard to the project.
