Provide required ventilator­s, staff in KGMU: HC to state

LUCKNOW : The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court has directed the principal secretary, medical education, to respond to the request for ventilator­s and concerned staff in KGMU hospital here within a week . It also directed the principal secretary, medical health, to take stock of the situation regarding availabili­ty of ventilator­s in the district hospitals of the state and submit a status report within two months.

A division bench comprising chief justice Dr Dhananjaya Yashwant Chandrachu­d and justice Rajan Roy gave this order on Wednesday on a public interest litigation ( PIL ) petition filed by a local lawyer. The petition sought directions for providing the required ventilator­s in district hospitals, including the SGPGI and KGMU in Lucknow for saving patients.

The court was informed on behalf of the respondent­s that 87 ventilator­s were functionin­g in the SGPGI AND 83 functionin­g in KGMU. It was also informed on behalf of

the KGMU that orders for purchase of 12 ventilator­s had been placed and further requisitio­n for 35 ventilator­s had been submitted before principal secretary, medical education.
