CM writes to railway minister
Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has requested union minister for railway Suresh Prabhu to restart a modern railbus service in Mathura-Vrindavan region on a priority basis.
The chief minister has sent a letter in this regard to Prabhu. In his letter, Yadav said a rail bus service, that had been running in the area for past many years, was stopped for poor track maintenance and technical glitches in the railbus service engine. This was badly affecting the tourism in the region, he said.
Yadav said besides being a prominent religious place, the Mathura-Vrandavan region attracted a large number of tourists round the year. A modern rail bus service would help in making world class facilities available to the tourists in the region, he said.
Yadav said the railway station and the land lying vacant there should be developed on mythological and religious themes. He said the main attarctions-the Krishna’s birth place, the Dwarkadheesh temple and Banke Bihari temple --were situated in narrow lanes. The rail bus service to connect these places would ease the traffic problem there, said the chief minister.
As the service was very important for the region and residents had been demanding that the service be started again, the railway ministry should take an early decision on the issue, he said.
