Selfie safety: No clicking near trains, tracks, warns Rlys

- HT Correspondent

The ‘click and add’ addicts, who are daring enough to defy death for a perfect shot with moving trains, had better step back. In view of the recent incidents in which several people were killed while taking selfie on tracks, an order has been circulated asking GRP and RPF personnel to book individuals found clicking selfies near trains on platform, in moving trains or on railway tracks. The step comes as this activity endangers not only the selfie-enthusiast’s life but of others also.

“The GRP and RPF would keep special watch on those taking selfie near manned/unmanned crossings or on train tracks,” said Archana Singh, incharge of GRP at Agra Fort railway station. “Keeping in view the recent tragedies, strict compliance of legal provision under the Railway Act is to be ensured,” said Archana. On April 15, two friends Jeetendra, 20, and Vinod, 18, were mowed down by the speeding Brahmputra Mail in Mirzapur as they came close to the train track for taking a selfie. A 45- year-old man who was watching the duo fell down and died. At an unmanned crossing in Saharanpur, a Class 10 student was mowed down while taking a selfie. Similarly, three college students were run over by a speeding train when they came on train track at Kosi Kalan area in Mathura district. According to railway sources, those violating the prohibition may be booked under Section 307 (attempt to suicide) of IPC or section 145 of Railways Act.
