Aditya continues his winning spree

Young Aditya Saraswat continued his winning streak even on the third day of the AITA Talent Series-7 Tennis Tournament, making it to the semi-finals of both under-14 and under-16, scoring straight set wins, at the Vijayantkh­and Stadium here on Wednesday.

Top seed Aditya first knocked down eighth seed Rishit Bhatt 4-0, 4-0 in under-14 singles quarterfin­al first and then went on brushing aside Lakshya Tikoo 4-1, 5-3 in under-16 singles quarterfin­al.

Top seeds in the girls under16 Advancy Goldsmith and Tanisha Pranjal in under-14 also booked berths in their respective categories semi-finals. Advancy outplayed Arshia 5-3, 3-5 (4), before beating the same rival in the under-14 quarters 4-1, 4-2. RESULTS

DHARMENDRA SHINES A breezy 76 off 49 balls with the help of 11 fours and two sixes by Dharmendra Pandey helped former champions Dainik Jagran regain the Shinecity Cup Media Twenty20 Cricket Tournament, defeating six-time former champions Hindustan Times by eight wickets here, at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium on Wednesday. Brand management company Kaivalya Communicat­ion had organised the event. Needing 138 in reply, DJ romped home in 16 overs, losing just two wickets. Dharmendra alongwith opener Prahlad Singh (51*, 44b, 6x4) added 123-run for the second wicket after DJ lost opener and skipper Rajiv Bajpai (0) in the very first over. Earlier, a slow batting by HT curtailed their scoring speed and they could make 137 for six in 20 overs while batting first after winning the toss. Vivek Tripathi (32*, 24b, 4x4), Rohit Singh (32, 31b, 3x4) and Sharad Deep (30, 29b, 4x4) were the main run getters. For DJ, Rajiv Bajpai and Nitesh shared four wickets between them. Saurabh Singh (man of the tournament), Rajeev Bajpai (best batsman), Girish Chandra (best bowler) and Sharad Deep (best wicketkeep­er) were given special awards.

EASY WIN Sitapur scored a thumping 120run win against Unnao in the Under-16 Inter-District cricket league, at the Northern Railway Stadium here on Wednesday. After scoring 205 for nine in 45 overs, Sitapur got the rivals out for 106 in 23.3 overs.

ST FIDELIS WIN St Fidelis School defeated RLB Sarvodaya Nagar School 60-37 to win the District Under-16 Boys Basketball Tournament here on Wednesday. The winners were leading by 26 -15 at the half-time. Asad (32) and Sahil (13) scored for the winners, whereas Ankit (15) excelled for the losers.
