‘STATE GUEST’ GHULAM ALI MESMERISES KASHI
ENCOURAGING ART:
Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday asked authorities to provide state guest status to ghazal maestro Ghulam Ali. He also announced that he would honour Ali at his official residence in Lucknow on Wednesday.

The CM also promised to honour kathak girl Soni Chaurasia with the Yash Bharti. Soni had recently entered the Guinness Book of Records for dancing kathak for 126 hours and 5 minutes continuously.

VARANASI: Performing to a ‘packed house’ on the Sankat Mochan Temple premises, ghazal maestro Ghulam Ali on Tuesday evening began with his famous alaap and a thumari: “yaad to usey karu jise kabhi bhulaya ho maine”. He was performing at the Sankat Mochan Sangeet Festival.
As Ghulam Ali reached on the stage, Kashites chanted Har Har Mahadev by raising their both hands.
Then he recited some of his best, including dil me ek lahar si uthi hai abhi, and had the audiences clapping incessantly.
He also kept his promise and presented some new ghazals during the performance. CM TO HONOUR GHULAM ALI TODAY
Hours after according state guest status to the ghazal maestro, chief minister Akhilesh Yadav announced that he would honour Ghulam Ali at his official residents in Lucknow on Wednesday.
According to Prof BN Mishra, younger brother of chief priest of Sankat Mochan Temple Mahant Vishambhar Nath Mishra, the district magistrate office received a call from the chief minister office during late evening, saying the UP CM would honour the ghazal maestro.
Prof Mishra said, “District administration officials have informed us about the development. Now, Gulam Ali would leave for Lucknow, instead of Delhi, on Wednesday and would attend the felicitation ceremony. After that he would leave for Delhi.”
