Virtual classroom for urologists, students

- HT Correspondent

Just a click of a mouse can now get both the aspiring and practising urologists into a virtual classroom to upgrade themselves with latest advances in the field with the help of videos and books free of cost.

With an aim to share with others what he has learned in over 30 years of his clinical practice, Dr Diwakar Dalela, senior faculty member, King George’s Medical University, has created Dalela Academy of Urology (www.dalelaacademy. in) providing useful information to learners. “The undergraduate and post-graduate students, paramedical staff and even the practising urologists can access different sections and learn as per their requirements,” said Dr Dalela, who has uploaded all the surgery videos that he himself made in the operation theatre.

He said he created the virtual classroom to share with students and even the common man the knowledge he gained during his professional life. “Science is developing everyday and if I keep teaching the same techniques to my students, they won’t be able to learn the advances. Since there is time limitation in actual classrooms, I decided to make basic things available on the internet and even answer queries. When the medicos have a clear idea of basics, they will be better equipped to learn the advances,” he said. As the website can also be accessed through smartphones, there is always a chance for students to learn whenever they feel like. They can read books and watch operation videos on the go. They can also send their queries, which would be replied in a day by Dr Dalela himself.

The website also promises patients and attendants to teach them details about different tests advised by doctors in the OPD. Dr Dalela said it was important as many patients were often under treatment for a long time and if they knew the basics of tests and medicines, they would have less queries in the OPD.
