- HT Correspondent

ALIGARH: Police teams are camping in several cities including Delhi , Moradabad, Bulandshahr and Nainital to arrest those accused of violence, arson and firing in Aligarh Muslim University ( AMU ) on the night of April 23-24 April. Police sources believe the accused will be arrested soon.

Apart from the named accused , the police are also focusing on the arrest of all those who had put the proctor’s office on fire .

The police received a major breakthrough from CCTV cameras installed on AMU campus at different points which recorded the rioting, arson and firing. The AMU and police have succeeded in identifying many of the accused. There are also many unknown faces in the footage, which were never seen earlier and may be outsiders.

Aligarh SP ( City ) Anshul Gupta told HT , “Police teams have been dispatched to many places to arrest the accused . CCTV cameras have exposed many faces and the police are zeroing in on them. We will take stern action against them .”

Meanwhile, the university administration has notified that the students should go on summer vacation after vacating their rooms before June 15. Rooms will be re-allotted after summer vacation when students join the university.

This decision has been taken in view of the fact that hostel rooms were found occupied by outsiders.

The university administration has also banned entry of outsiders on the campus. Only students, teachers and university staff will be allowed to enter the varsity after producing identity cards. The visitors will have to take prior appointment. Even the students will have to take appointment from university officials to meet them. They can only visit AMU offices between 3pm to 5pm.
