LUCKNOW: Making school-hunt an easy task, three IIT-Kanpur (IIT-K) students have developed a web portal that helps parents search for schools around their locality, filter them according to their need, and even apply online.

Parents can also send enquiries to the school through the website -- instichoose.com -- which will be answered by the school authorities. As of now, instichoose has enlisted more than 3,000 schools, across 13 cities.

Some of the top schools of different cities have agreed to be part of the platform.

The startup currently has operations in Kanpur and Delhi-NCR region.

Ravish Agarwal was assisted by two other IIT-K students -Raunak Shamnani and Rishabh Vaish -- in developing this portal. The technology part of insti-choose is managed by Raunak while the product design and user experience is handled by Rishabh.

Speaking to HT, Agarwal said last year his family was searching for a school for his cousin who passed out from a primary school in Delhi. “I too got involved in the school hunt. Soon I realized that there was a dearth of school information. There was no structured website where schools could be searched. Moreover, reviews followed the word-of-mouth approach. It was impossible to find ratings objectively,” he said.

“It was surprising that in today’s world one could find ratings for movies, food, cars, houses, clothing but not education. This fact puzzled me. Looking at this problem we conceptualized instichoose,” Agarwal said.

Vaish added: “We created the portal to answer the common questions among parents. We will continuously strive to make school admission an easy and convenient process for them.”

The trio is also looking forward to build community platforms to answer some general queries through mutual discussions. “Moreover, we are looking forward to enable location and travelling time-based search to facilitate parents find schools convenient to them,” Agarwal said.
