Former zila panchayat chairman Vijay Bahadur Yadav and his wife Maya Yadav, who is a sitting zila panchayat chairman, were expelled from the Samajwadi Party here on Thursday evening for their alleged involvement in land grabbing and indiscipline.

The former chairman and his two aides were later arrested on Friday after an FIR was registered against them for rioting and attacking cops, at Chinhat police station. At least 10 people were injured in the clash.

District police spokesman Alok Pathak confirmed the news and said the former chairman along with Kallu and Kanhai were arrested from their relative’s place on Friday morning. He said they were taken to Chinhat police station but later shifted to Gomti Nagar, as Yadav’s supporters started gathering after coming to know about his arrest. He said the trio has been sent to jail after being produced in a court and further probe is on.

The action was initiated after the former chairman along with 150 supporters tried to grab around 12,000 square foot land in Chinhat’s Baghamau village on Thursday morning. The former chairman and his aides attacked an advocate Indal Prasad and his family members for resisting their act. They entered into a clash when villagers turned up in the advocate’s support. The former chairman and his supporters surrounded the Chinhat police station and blocked the Faizabad road demanding to act in his favour.

Sources said the local police was reluctant taking action against Yadav initially. However, later they lodged an FIR after getting clearance from top police officials and the expulsion announced by the Samajwadi Party on Thursday evening. SP spokesman Rajendra Chowdhary said that Vijay Bahadur Yadav his wife Maya Yadav had been expelled for their involvement in anti-party activities, indiscipline and land grabbing.

Meanwhile, on hearing the news of his expulsion and registering of an FIR, Yadav disappeared leaving his government security guard.

Two separate FIRs by advocate Indal Prasad and one Sanjeev Kumar Singh were registered in the matter. The FIR was lodged against Vijay Bahadur Yadav, local village pradhan Manoj Yadav, his supporters Kallu, Kanhai, Raghunandan, Swaymar Yadav, Jaggannath, Laxman, Vinod and 150 unidentified people.
