Elderly couple fights back dreaded criminal

-

Showing exemplary courage, an elderly couple nabbed dreaded criminal Ayaz Ahmad, after he and two of his associates threatened them with a gun. The miscreants were reportedly causing nuisance at the couple’s fuel station in Sarojininagar here on Thursday night.

The brave duo did not bat a lid even when the criminals opened fire in the air and surrounded them. While Ahmad was nabbed, his associates, Rauf and Arjun Yadav managed to flee. Cops recovered a country-made pistol and two live cartridges from Ahmad’s possession.

Ayaz Ahmad is a listed history sheeter of Sarojininagar police station and has at least 16 cases of murder, attempt to murder, loot and extortion registered against him. He was involved in a sensational murder in Sarojininagar two years ago. The incident occurred at Vinayak petrol pump in Sarojininagar’s Bijnore locality at around 9pm on Thursday. The fuel station is owned by Ram Karan Singh, a retired banker and his wife Mundrika Singh.

The couple was busy supervising the construction work at Vinayak Medicare hospital – being set up near the fuel station – when the petrol pump staff came running out to inform them about three motorcycleborne miscreants who were causing nuisance.

Singh said that the miscreants were trying to pressurise the staff to not charge them for fueling up their vehicles. They also claimed to have support of local leaders.

“We came running to the fuel station. Ahmad and his associates initially tried to frighten us and trained a gun on us. They even opened fire and tried to flee when we, with the help of our staff, surrounded them. I pulled down Ahmad and Rauf from the motorcycle while Arjun Yadav escaped,” said Mundrika while narrating the sequence of events. However, later, Rauf too escaped as the Singh couple got busy trying to pry the gun from Ahmad. Mundrika then informed the police control room and handed over Ahmad to the cops. She said that her husband had lodged an FIR against the accused under charges of attempt to murder, issuing threats and causing nuisance. Station officer, Sarojininagar, Sudhir Kumar, said that efforts were on to arrest the absconding miscreants.
