A 25-year-old youth had a close shave after he climbed atop a bogie of a goods train at Idgah railway station here on Friday to click a selfie. He sustained burn injuries on his chest after coming in contact of an OHE (overhead electricity line) and was admitted to the SN Hospital of Agra.

The incident occurred at 9.45 am when the victim, Chhotu and his friends were on platform no. 1 of the railway station, waiting for a shuttle train to Fatehpur Sikri (40 km from Agra).

“The platform was crowded and a goods train was stationed on the nearby track. Chhotu climbed atop the bogie and took out his cell phone to click a selfie, said Raghvendra Singh, in-charge of GRP outpost at Idgah railway station.

“The man came in contact with the high intensity OHE (Over Head Electricity) line and was thrown aside. He suffered burn injuries on the chest. His mother, uncle and brother reached the station and Chhotu was admitted to the emergency ward of SN Hospital,” added Singh.

The doctors attending Chhotu said he was out of danger and recovering.

On May 25, three youths were arrested at Tundla (Firozabad) when they placed stones on the railway track to slow down the Rajdhani Express so that they could have a selfie with the moving train.

On April 15, two friends – Jeetendra, 20 and Vinod, 18 – were mowed down by the Brahmputra Mail in Mirzapur as they came close to the track for taking a selfie. A 45-year-old man who was watching the duo taking the selfie fell down and was killed.

Similarly, three college students were run over by a train when they came on the track at Kosi Kalan area in Mathura district last year.
