LMC’S GREEN BELT PROG FROM TOMORROW

The Lucknow Municipal Corporatio­n has undertaken an ambitious project to expand green cover of the city.

The LMC’s eight-day green belt programme starting from Monday would cover seven zones.

During the eight–day long drive, around 3364 saplings of several species would be planted all over the city.

The drive would kick-off from zone 2 on Monday at around 9am, covering Rajajipura­m, Hardeen Rai Nagar and Kundri Rakabganj wards of the zone. In the entire zone, 252 saplings of Ficus, Punarnava and Chandni Variegated would be planted, among others.

In zone three, the plantation drive would be carried out on July 12 and 13. . Around 846 saplings would be planted in Bhartendu Harishchan­dra, Lala Lajpat Rai, Bajrang Bali, Shankar Purva (first) and Aliganj wards.

Four wards would be covered on July 14 and 15.In these four wards - Rajiv Gandhi (second), Rajiv Gandhi (first), Rafi Ahmad Kidwai and Chinat-1176 saplings would be planted in various parks.

In zone five, plantation drive would be carried out on July 16 in Sardar Patel ward with, 201 saplings being planted. On the same day, 126 saplings would be planted in Balaganj ward in zone six.

In Ismailganj (first) ward in zone seven, 389 saplings would be planted on July 17.

In zone eight, Sharda Nagar ward would be covered on July 18 and 374 saplings would be planted.

Meanwhile, preparatio­ns for the July 11 plantation drive in Lucknow, (an attempt for the Guinness World Record by planting five crore saplings in 24 hours) are in full swing.
