Governor sends report on Kairana, Mathura, Dadri incidents to Prez

- HT Correspondent

KANPUR: Governor Ram Naik on Sunday said he had sent reports submitted by the UP government on Mathura, Kairana and Dadri incidents to President Pranab Mukherjee and it was up to the President to take a call on them now. Naik, who was in Kanpur, said the government sent the reports after he made such a demand from the state government. “They have been forwarded to the President,” he said.

He said the Mathura incident could have been prevented had the government acted with promptness.

“I have asked the government for a white paper on illegal occupation of government lands, ponds, play grounds, parks etc,” he said.

“Before doing so, the government should ask the district magistrate to prepare status report on illegal occupation and a white paper be brought in the assembly on basis of those inputs,” he said.

The ruling SP has accused the governor of being political after a demand was made for these reports.

Kairana and Mathura hogged the headlines last month.

BJP MP Hukum Singh had claimed that the Hindus were forced to migrate from Kairana due to law and order issues and this triggered a lot of charges and counter-charges from all political parties.

Some days before the Kairana controversy, a violent clash took place in Mathura between police and illegal encroachers led by one cult leader Rambriksha Yadav.

Two policemen and 29 encroachers died in the incident.

While last September, Mohammad Akhlaq, 52, was beaten to death in Bisada village of Dadri in Noida by a mob infuriated by rumours that he and his family had stored and consumed beef. The Samajwadi Party has trashed the Kairana exodus and called Mathura action swift. For both Kairana and Bisada, it accused BJP of fanning communal fire ahead of 2017 UP Assembly elections.
