Now ‘E Shikayat’ for redressals

- HT Correspondent

LUCKNOW: A senior bureaucrat’s son has developed a portal that will help people get their grievances, pertaining to government departments, redressed easily. The website enables people to file their complaints in a simple manner. Top-level officers, like the principal secretary or an equivalent cadre officer, would be the recipients of these complaints.

‘E Shikayat’, the portal, is the brainchild of 15-year-old first Aniket Gupta, son of AK Gupta (IAS).

Aniket believes that the country has developed a lot over the years but one area where it has not made much progress is that of grievance redressal. “The portal plugs the communication gap between the government and the people,” said the class-10 student.

“One of the key features of the website is that it is available both in Hindi and English. Secondly, it can be accessed from any kind of internetconnected device. Thirdly, the user will get an acknowledgment along with a complaint number, which he can use to follow up on the status of the complaint in future.”

It was during a visit to Mumbai that Aniket first got the idea.

He visited a few villages and saw that people did not have a proper platform to air their grievances. “I realised that there was a need for a centralised forum, like a website, through which people could address various departments, right from the comfort of their homes,” shared Aniket.

Explaining further, he said, “The way of filing a complaint has been kept as simple as possible. The site has certain mandatory fields like the user’s name, father’s/husband’s name, village name, block, police station, tehsil, district, date, category of complaint and name of the organisation responsible. After filling out these details and clicking on ‘send’, the site will automatically generate a complaint number, which can be followed up on. A link on the page displays the email IDs of various departments and URLs of individual websites, in case the user wants to reach out to them directly. The user can also get in touch with us via email, which is provided under the tab ‘contact’.”

Taking an example of how E Shikayat works, Aniket explained, “For instance, if there is a matter related to crime that the user is not satisfied with, he can file a complaint on E Shikayat. The complaint would be transmitted to DGP control and principal secretary,

The complainant will get an acknowledgment and a complaint number, which can be used to follow up on its status. ANIKET GUPTA, creator of E Shikayat

home, and forwarded from there to other appropriate levels. The police response could then be communicated to E Shikayat.”

The portal can be accessed by different kinds of personal web-browsing devices, including smartphones. Others, who don’t have their own devices, can make use of Jan Suvidha Kendras to file their complaints, said Aniket.
