- HT Correspondent

Patients who got themselves treated for hepatitis said at a programme here on Saturday that there was life after the disease. The programme Youth Against Hepatitis was organised by Health Oriented Programmes and Education (HOPE) organisation on Saturday.

“In 2010, when my wife was first diagnosed with hepatitis and investigations revealed that me and all my three kids had the same infection, I felt as if everything was over. But today as I am under proper treatment, I can say there is life if you fight the disease with proper medication,” said a middle-aged man while sharing his experience.

“There are five types of hepatitis infections A,B, C, D, E. A, D and E are not as harmful as B and C. The B and C infections spread through infected needles and unprotected sex,” said Dr G Choudhuri, while delivering an expert lecture on the topic.

The conclave was attended by people from different walks of life, including prominent doctors, students of the medical fraternity, eminent personalities from educational and societies as well as those affected by this deadly disease . Nursing students shared their knowledge about hepatitis and also asked Dr Choudhuri questions.

The experts present in the event said that the maximum transfer of hepatitis infection was from mother to child and that was why antenatal check-up included hepatitis too and newborns were provided with vaccine.

There was a panel discussion on Hepatitis B / C Free Uttar Pradesh and the panelists were Dr Piyali Bhattacharya, Dr Prerna Kapoor and Dr Sudha Rao. Dr G Choudhuri moderated the discussion. Hepatitis patients were then felicitated for their struggle against this disease.
