BJP, BSP competing in use of foul language: Akhilesh

- HT Correspondent

Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday said the BJP and the BSP were indulging in a competition over the use of abusive language.

While disapproving of expelled BJP leader Dayashankar Singh’s derogatory remark against Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati, he said one part of his (Singh’s) statement with regard to tickets being sold for the upcoming assembly polls was correct.

“There have been protests from the last three days. What he (Dayashankar Singh) said is condemnable, but everyone knows the fact that tickets are sold in the BSP. One part is wrong, but the other part is right and true. We all know that the people get tickets in BSP through money and bribe. Even those who are leaving the BSP are saying such things,” he said on the sidelines of a programme organised at his residence to honour teachers and scientists here on Saturday.

“It is right that such language should not be used against any women. But what was said in reply (allegedly by BSP leaders), that too on a public platform, was also not correct,” he added.

“The fact that all this has happened in a city where etiquette is the bottomline of any and every conversation is very unfortunate and people in the political spectrum should introspect on what kind of language should be used in public discourse,” he stated.

Yadav took a dig at the BJP and the BSP, who have been allies in the past, and said that since Raksha Bandhan was round the corner, the two outfits should patch up. He was alluding to the tying of Rakhi by Mayawati on senior BJP leader Lalji Tandon many years back.

The chief minister also told reporters the law would take its own course in the matter and action would be taken accordingly on the FIRs filed by both the expelled BJP leader’s family and the BSP after police investigations.
