Swati Singh, wife of expelled BJP leader Dayashankar Singh, who had questioned Mayawati’s character, on Sunday met Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik and lodged a complaint over foul language allegedly used by BSP workers against women of her family during their protests.

Expelled BJP leader Dayashankar Singh’s wife Swati Singh on Sunday met governor Ram Naik and demanded action against BSP leaders under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (Pocso) Act.

The former BJP leader’s wife handed over of a CD of the Bahujan Samaj Party agitation at Hazratganj in Lucknow on July 21 in which BSP leaders and workers had used derogatory words against Swati Singh, her minor daughter and sisterin-law. The BSP workers were protesting against Dayashankar Singh’s derogatory comment against BSP chief Mayawati.

Swati Singh also handed over a memorandum to the governor, expressing apprehension of a life threat to her family.

During the meeting, which lasted for around 45 minutes, the governor assured full protection to family members of Swati Singh.

The governor also informed Swati Singh that he had also sought a CD and a report of BSP demonstration from the director general of police Javeed Ahmad.

“I met governor Ram Naik today (Sunday) along with my family members. I handed over the CD of the BSP’s demonstration in Hazratganj on July 21 in which the party leaders and workers used derogatory words against me, my daughter and sister-in-law,” said Swati Singh.

“I also handed over a memorandum to the governor, demanding imposition of the Posco Act against BSP leaders for abusing my minor daughter,” added Swati Singh.

Commenting on the ongoing controversy and the war of words between her and the BSP leaders, Swati Singh said: “My husband is a fulltime politician. He is not into any job. If an employee in any office commits a mistake, then are his wife and daughter supposed to apologise?” asked Swati Singh.

Replying to a BSP leader’s comment that Swati Singh was not an ordinary woman as she was a politician’s wife, she said: “I want to know the criterion for a woman to be declared an ‘ordinary woman’.”

An FIR was filed against Mayawati along with general secretary Siddiqui and others on Friday on a complaint of Dayashankar Singh’s mother Tetra Devi.

She had alleged that Mayawati used “abusive language” against the women members of the family and BSP leaders raised “derogatory” slogans at the protest in Lucknow on Thursday during which Singh’s 12-year-old daughter was also dragged into the row.
