Central Command to celebrate Kargil Vijay Diwas on July 26

To commemorat­e India’s emphatic victory in the Kargil war and honour the war heroes, Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated all over the country on July 26 every year. It was on this historic day in 1999 that gallant soldiers of the Indian Army successful­ly took control of posts in extremely difficult and treacherou­s high altitude and glaciated terrain across the Himalayas in Ladakh region, after fighting for 60 days. the Central Command is organising a series of functions to mark the occasion.

A function to pay homage to gallant martyrs will be held in all stations across the seven states under the area of responsibi­lity of Central Command. This will be followed by felicitati­on of all participan­ts, Veer Naris, parents of martyrs, veterans and widows above 80 years. The main functions will be held in Lucknow and Jabalpur with a solemn pledge to serve the nations always and everywhere.

In Lucknow, Governor Ram Naik will pay homage to martyrs at Smritika War Memorial in the presence of senior serving and retired military officers, junior commission­ed officers and other ranks. Lt gen BS Negi, army commander, Central Command will lay the wreath and felicitate Veer Naris at Jabalpur, the home of the two most decorated regiments (The Grenadiers and Jammu & Kashmir Rifles) of Kargil War.
