Twenty-three students of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalya , Madrak, suffered from food poisoning on Sunday after having breakfast. Initially they were provided first aid in school but as their number rose, the school administration rushed them to the district hospital. On receiving information, basic education department officials also came on their toes. Most of the girls are said to have recovered but some are still in hospital.

BSA ( Aligarh ) Dhirendra Singh told HT, “Some girls had complaine d of stomachache after eating food. But all the girls have recovered after treatment. They are being sent back to school.”

Dr Hira Singh, CMS , Malkhan Singh District Hospital said, “Twenty-three girls were admitted to the hospital with complaints of stomachache and diarrhoea. All were provided necessary treatment. Though all the girls have recovered, 7 are still under treatment. “There are nearly 100 girl students in the school. They were given dalia (porridge) for breakfast on Sunday. But after eating it, six girls complained of stomachache. The school administration called a local doctor and they were given treatment. Soon more girls complained of stomachache and diarrhoea and their condition began to deteriorate. The school authorities rushed 23 girls to the district hospital. The ill girls told HT that they had stomachache after consuming dalia and bread.

PTI Sushil Sharma and the doctor accompanied the girls to the district hospital. The doctor sealed the kitchen of the school for further investigations and inquiry, as only the sample of food provided to the girls may reveal the exact reason for their illness.

At 9 am, the hospital sources said that barring a few, , all girls had recovered .

Though everyone is reluctant to talk about the incident, it is being alleged that the students were provided stale bread.
