Rebel BSP leader Swami Prasad Maurya on Sunday said, “BSP national president Mayawati is not a ‘devi’ of the dalits as claimed by her but she is a selfish leader who is hardly concerned about the dignity of the dalit community.”

Speaking at a press conference, Maurya, who has floated the Loktantrik Bahujan Manch (LBM) after severing ties with the BSP, said, “Mayawati is playing with the emotions of the dalit community and provoking them to take to the street over the alleged derogatory remark made by expelled BJP leader Dayashankar Singh.”

Maurya, once a close aide of Mayawati, said under SP rule large-scale atrocities had been committed on the scheduled castes but the BSP chief remained silent. When a small time BJP leader made a derogatory comment against her, she was trying to rake up the issue of the dignity of dalits, he added. Rather than organising demonstration and rallies on public issues, the BSP, as well as other political parties, were conducting movements on abusive comments, he said.

Replying to a question, Maurya said Mayawati would not take action against BSP national general secretary Naseemuddin Siddiqui since he was the main fund raiser of the party. The fact that the BSP was on the back foot was clear from Mayawati’s decision to call off statewide demonstration, he said.

A meeting of LBM leaders was held under the chairmanship of Maurya to discuss the strategy for the 2017 assembly election. The LBM has planned to organise rallies across the state to tell people about the ideology of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar and Kanshi Ram.

He alleged that BSP has given ticket to merely 4% OBC candidates in the assembly election. “I will fight for the dignity of the OBC and ensure that they get adequate representation in the legislative assembly,” he said.
