PROCLAIM INDIA A HINDU RASHTRA: UDHAV

Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray attacked the Narendra Modi government on Sunday for its stance on the violence in Kashmir and said the time had come for the country to adopt an ideology and proclaim India as ‘Hindu Rashtra’.

In the first part of a threepart interview series in party mouthpiece Saamana ahead of his 56th birthday on July 27, Thackeray said the country was stuck between the dilemma of Hindutva and secularism. “We now have to adopt any one ideology and that should be proclaiming India as ‘Hindu state’ as we are left with no other option. Enough of this secular blandishment as because of this, Hindus have been facing injustice,” he said. He also attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for bringing the nation to a confusing state and failing to control violence and unrest in Jammu and Kashmir. “Why is Jammu and Kashmir suddenly up in flames? Who is responsible for this? Anti-India slogans are being raised. The Amarnath Yatra was stopped, Kashmiris are on streets, soldiers and police have been attacked without any fear. For how long will this go on?” Thackeray asked. He added that the government at the Centre had changed but it had not benefited common people.
