JAT QUOTA ISSUE: HC TELLS CS TO TAKE ACTION
The Allahabad high court has directed chief secretary Deepak Singhal to take a decision with regard to removal of Jat community from the list of OBC category in the light of the Supreme Court judgement passed in Ram Singh case.
The order was passed by justice MK Gupta on a contempt petition filed by Rajveer and others. The court has directed the chief secretary to take a decision within two months failing which the contempt proceeding will be initiated against him.
It was pleaded on behalf of the petitioners’ counsel AK Mishra that earlier a division bench of this court had directed on December 1, 2015 to the then chief secretary to take a decision in the matter within 8 weeks but nothing was done which amounted to wilful disobedience of the court’s order.
After hearing counsels of both sides, the court disposed of the contempt petition while giving one more opportunity to the chief secretary to take a decision within two months.
