JOY EXCELS A solitary first half goal by Joy Chandra helped Shastra Seema Bal (SSB) shock Sports Hostel by 1-0 in the men’s category of the Lucknow Hockey League here on Friday.

Despite playing on their home turf of the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium, Hostel boys didn’t match with the pace of experienced SSB men. Jot struck the all-important as early as in the seventh minute of play to leave Hostel boys struggling for the ball. Though they denied SSB further chances to extend their lead, they couldn’t even break the SSB’s defence even once to equalise the score.

The second match in the category sprung a big surprise when favourites Sports Authority of India didn’t turn for their match against UP Power Sector.

This wasn’t all for the SAI as their girls went down fighting to Balika Vidyalaya 1-2 in their category. Anuradha and Pooja Prajapti scored for the winners, whereas Pragati Kumari reduced the margin for SAI in the 59th minute. WEEKLY BRIDGE The duo of Shantanu Rastogi and TP Khare with 39 points emerged victorious in the IMP Pairs event of the Weekly Bridge Tournament, at the Lucknow Club here on Friday. In all, 11 pairs played 11 rounds of two boards each. Rastogi and Khare won with a comfortable margin of eight IMPs averaging 1.95 IMPs per deal. VK Tiwari-BD Sarkar (31) and SH Zaheer-Ashok Srivastava (9) finished second and third, respectively.
