Now, UP legislators to get hefty hike in salary, allowances
LUCKNOW: Days after increasing the salaries of chief minister and ministers, the UP government on Wednesday moved a bill in the assembly paving way for steep hike in salaries and pension of sitting and former legislators, respectively.
As per the provisions of the Uttar Pradesh State Legislature (Members’ Emoluments and Pension) (Amendment) Bill-2016, to be passed by the state assembly on Thursday, the salaries and allowances of legislators would go up from `75,000 per month to `1,25,000 per month.
This includes `25,000 as salary, constituency allowance of `50,000, secretarial allowance of ` 20,000 and medical allowance of `30,000 per month. A substantial hike has also been proposed in the public service allowance paid to them. As a result, the legislators would get a total of `1,70,000-1,85,000 per month. The public service allowance has been increased from `1,000 per day to `2,000 per day payable when the state legislature is in session. When the House is not in session, the allowance would go up to ` 1,500 per day from `800 per day. The total amount for travel coupons given to the legislators has also been increased from `3.25 lakh per annum to `4.5 lakh per annum.
As per the proposal, the pension payable to former legislators would also go up from `10,000 to `25,000 per month. An amount of `2,000 per month against existing `1,000 per month would be added to the pension for completion of every one year as legislator.
Minister for parliamentary affairs Mohammad Azam Khan, in his statement of objects and reasons for bringing the bill, said the state government decided to amend the Act to revise the pay, allowances, railway coupons and other amenities in view of price rise and increase in responsibilities of legislators.
