Vodafone launches 4G services in state capital

LUCKNOW: Multinatio­nal mobile service provider Vodafone has launched its 4G services in eastern UP, beginning with the state capital on Wednesday. Also, the 4G services will soon be rolled out in other cities of the eastern UP area.

The company will enter into a memorandum of understand­ing with the state government where it will install its base transceive­r stations (BTS) and in return, police stations and thanas will get free wi-fi round the clock to increase the efficiency of the state police.

There is also a proposal to install 4G towers all along the Yamuna expressway that will lead to developmen­t of the area with good connectivi­ty. Chief secretary Deepak Singhal and DGP Javeed Ahmad had a discussion with Sunil Sood, managing director and CEO, Vodafone India before the launch ceremony.

Built on 1800 MHz band, the service provider claimed that other than fast downloadin­g and uploading of web content, users will also adore features like high definition video streaming, mobile gaming and seamless video calling. Sood added, “4G has the potential to revolution­ize the mobile experience through powerful innovation.”

Also, Vodafone 4G services will soon be available in 1000 towns across the country by the end of the year. Nine circles of Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Karnataka, Kerala, Gujarat, Haryana, eastern UP and West Bengal, together contribute to about 70% of Vodafone India’s data revenues.

On the occasion, Nipun Sharma, business head, UP East, Vodafone India said, “The circle is a strong leadership market for Vodafone India and our over 1.94 crore customers have a lot to look forward to.” SETTING UP MOBILE MANUFACTUR­ING UNIT

Mobile company Oppo’s global vice-president Eric and CEO, Micromax group Rajesh Agarwal met chief minister Akhilesh Yadav at his official residence on Wednesday. Delegates from Oppo mobile company presented a proposal to set up a mobile manufactur­ing unit at the Greater Noida or Yamuna Expressway electronic manufactur­ing cluster.

They informed that they were producing 16 lakh mobile phones from its existing unit in Noida per month and once the proposed project kicks off, its capacity in the next three years would go up to five crore mobile phones in the country. The company will invest about ` 2000 crores.

A 150 acre stretch of land is required for the project and with the project 60,000 persons would get direct and indirect employment. The CM assured the delegation of all necessary help under the UP Electronic­s Manufactur­ing Policy-2014, leaving aside the cost of the land. He requested them to identify a land for the project and start the work at the earliest.

Also, the CM handed over the land allotment letter for 16.88 acre land for establishi­ng a factory in the electronic­s manufactur­ing cluster at greater Noida to the Micromax group CEO, Rajesh Agarwal. This factory would produce 60 lakh mobile phones every year. The group also presented a proposal for investment of ` 210 crore and they were also assured various encouragem­ents under the UP Electronic­s Manufactur­ing Policy-2014. It may be pointed out here that under this policy, investors are given a 25% rebate on land costs and many other financial benefits.
