CM flags off nation wide cycle campaign
LUCKNOW: As part of his government’s ‘Clean UP-Green UP’ initiative, chief minister Akhilesh Yadav flagged off a cycle campaign aimed at creating awareness about the conservation of environment from his official residence here on Wednesday.
The two-member team includes cyclists Heera Lal Yadav and Nishant Kumar, who would cover various parts of the country in their two-month long cycle expedition.
Heera Lal Yadav has crisscrossed the country thrice on cycle and has pedaled for more than one crore km to promote various campaigns like ‘Beti Bachao,’ ‘Nasha Mukti’ and environment protection.
Lauding the effort of the duo, the CM said the campaign would go a long way in spreading awareness about environment and greenery.
“Under the mission, people of the state would be encouraged to plant more trees and be informed about the importance of nature, how to conserve it along with the 5.5 crore saplings planted by the state government,” he said.
After flagging off the cycle campaign, the CM met a team of youth who undertook a cycling trip from Leh to Kanyakumari to spread the message of peace, unity and integrity.
The cycle team started on June 13 from Leh and reached Kanyakumari on June 27, got an entry in the ‘Limca Book of World Records.’
Digvijay Singh of the team, who hails from Sitapur district, said till now the world record in the category (pedaling for more than 4,000 km) was held by the Indian Army.
The team of cyclists included Karuna Shankar Dwivedi (Barabanki), Monu Dubey (Siddharthnagar), Ashvini Singh from Deoria and Aakash Yadav from Azamgarh among others.
