The police have recorded a complaint regarding the incident and deployed additional police force to maintain law and order in the area.

“A 16-year-old girl from the village, which falls under Madhotanda police station, was reported missing since Wednesday night. Her family members have alleged that the girl has been abducted,” said superintendent of police (SP) of Pilibhit Muniraj.

According to the police complaint lodged by the girl’s father, she was kidnapped by one Riyasat Raza and his cousin Jishan Raza on Wednesday night. In his complaint, the aggrieved father has mentioned that the girl was kidnapped at gunpoint when she went out to attend the nature’s call on Wednesday night.

The father has also suspected the involvement of one Mukim and Ehsan who are relatives of the key accused Riyasat.

The family members searched for the girl throughout the night and later lodged a complaint at Madhatonda police station on Thursday.

“The local police team initially didn’t paid heed to our complaint which delayed the investigation,” said the uncle of the girl.

Based on his complaint, police have registered a case under POSCO Act (Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act), SC/ ST Act, kidnapping and other charges. “The accused are absconding since the incident and we have formed two police teams which are on a lookout to arrest them,” said the SP.

The incident has also caused tension among people of the two communities and administration has deployed additional police force to ensure peace in the area. “The present situation is peaceful and the local police officials are in constant touch with both the sides,” said the officer.
