Higher education back on track in UP: Guv
GORAKHPUR: Expressing happiness over timely conduct of academic sessions in various universities of the state, governor Ram Naik said the higher education system in UP was coming back on track. Naik was addressing the gathering at the first convocation ceremony of Madan Mohan Malaviya University of Technology (MMMUT) on Sunday.
“Convocations in all the 26 universities which I head as chancellor have been conducted on time and results have been declared on time. In the last two years, the higher education system has started coming back on track,” he said
As many as 236 students including 178 M Tech and 58 MBA pass outs were awarded degrees by the governor in the presence of other dignitaries including Fareed Mahfooz Qidwai, MoS technical department, Prof Anil D. Sahasrabudhe, Chairman All India council of Technical Education (AICTE) and Vice Chancellor MMMUT Prof Onkar Singh.
Both girls and boys ended up bagging equal number of gold medals-six each for topping their respective classes.
The special attraction of the convocation was the specially designed Malaviyan robes that were put on by the students, teachers, vice chancellor, Governor Ram Naik and other dignitaries. Dedicated to Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, after whom the university is named, the robes replaced the traditional gown worn in Indian universities since the colonial era. Students of the university had designed the robes at the behest of vice chancellor Prof Onkar Singh.
The governor told the students that on his suggestion the vice chancellor of all the universities in the state had conducted convocations in traditional Indian attire and done away with colonial-era gowns. Hailing the boys and girls for securing equal number of medals, the governor said that competition in life was necessary to excel and move ahead.
He cautioned students on taking short cut to achieve success. He advised them not to shy away from hard work.
