Man attacks BJP MLA with chilli powder

-

MUZAFFARNAGAR: A man threw red chilli powder in BJP MLA Kapil Deo Aggrawal’s eyes on Monday and escaped with his two accomplices on a motorbike. The incident took place in the morning hours when the MLA was listening to the problems of the city residents at his office in his Gandhinagar-based house here. He was rushed to an eye hospital for treatment.

According to police, at about 9 am, one Kapil alias Mintoo of village Pinana, under city kotwali police station, accompanied by two others came to meet Aggrawal. Reportedly, just after the MLA welcomed Kapil, the latter threw red chilli powder at his face and fled the scene with his friends. On hearing Aggrawal’s cries of pain, his security guard rushed outside and fired a gun shot at the escaping assailants but with no result. The MLA’s family members and neighbours took him to the hospital for treatment. He was discharged later.

After receiving news of the incident, circle officer New Mandi, Shivraj Singh reached the spot and conducted investigation. Speaking to HT, Aggrawal said, “Kapil requested me to provide him with the membership of BJP. He had visited my house several times for this purpose. He wanted a BJP ticket from the Charthawal seat. The circle officer said that a special team has been formed to nab the culprit and his two accomplices and soon the trio will be behind bars.”

As soon as news of the assault broke out, BJP activists and leaders including district president Ruprendra Saini and other social and political personalities arrived at the spot. They expressed strong resentment over the declining law and order situation in the state. Rajendra Singh, a resident of the area said, “If MLAs are not safe then how can the safety of the common man be assured.”

STATE GOVT FLAYED

In Lucknow, the party’s state unit chief Keshav Prasad Maurya criticised the UP government over what he claimed were “growing attacks” on the BJP and NDA leaders in the state.

He cited the Monday attack on BJP’s Muzaffarnagar MLA Kapil Dev as a case in point.
