State election commission (SEC) in collaboration with National Service Scheme (NSS) of the Lucknow university will revise the existing voter list in order to make it error free. The exercise will also include induction of new voters, largely first time voters, into the list.

On Thursday, the Inaugural session of the programme was held here in which T Venkatesh, state chief election commissioner, was the chief guest. “It is high time for us to understand that voting right is a power to change our tomorrow. We should join hands and ensure that each and every voter availed his or her voting right. Names of those who somehow couldn’t find a place get included in the voter list”, he said.

Under the program, Venkatesh said people could apply both off-line and online. “Those willing to apply off-line can visit www.ceouttarpradesh. nic.in or www.eci.nic.in and download the related form. They can then submit their forms manually at the registration centres. Online applicants can log on to www.nvsp.in and submit the form to obtain their voter ID cards. Besides this, voters can also call 8001801950 for any queries,” he said.

Outgoing divisional commissioner Anoop Chandra Pandey, who presided over the programme urged the youths to join in and make the initiative a success.

“Our state is going to the polls and it’s a good time for us to ensure that each and every voter in the state casts his vote. I am sure the exercise would further boost up the polling percentage,” he said.

Satyendra Singh, district magistrate, stressed upon the induction of female voters into the voter list. A ‘Nukkad Natak’ was staged by NSS volunteers as a part of the programme.
