Boy falls into pit filled with rainwater, drowns

In a tragic incident, a 10-year-old boy drowned after falling into a 20-feet-deep pit filled with rainwatera­ttheeducat­iontrust’sground in Bazarkhala area here on Friday morning. The boy’s mother alleged the trust’s negligence and lodged an FIR against three people including the contractor who dug up the pit.

The deceased was identified as Abhishek Kumar, resident of Saadatganj’s Biharpur locality. The incident took place when the boy was playing on the trust’s ground along with his friends at around 10.30 am. He accidental­ly slipped into the pit filled with water and drowned.

The boy’s mother Meena alleged that the contractor, who was involved in digging work at the site, the guard and a tractor trolley driver hired for removing mud was present at the site when the accident took place. She said the trio did not rescue her son when other children present there shouted for help.

She said the pit was left open negligentl­y and no protection was put up there. The police had lodged an FIR under IPC section 288 and 304 A against the trio and are further probing the matter. The boy’s body had been sent for postmortem examinatio­n.

In another incident, a 14-year-old boy named Ajeet Rawat died as the wall of his house collapsed due to LPG cylinder blast in Gudamba here early morning on Friday. The blast happened when the boy’s elder sister Shalu (22) lit the gas stove to cook food at around 5.30 am. The girl was also critically injured in the blast and sustained 80% burn injuries. She was admitted to the civil hospital. The blast took place apparently due to leakage of the LPG cylinder.
