Dengue claims 5 more lives

Dengue claimed five more lives, taking the death toll to 72, while 70 more patients queued up in hospitals on Saturday.

Ram Shankar Pandey, who succumbed to dengue on Saturday, was admitted to a private hospital a couple of days back after he complained of severe headache, congestion and fever. The deceased was a resident of Janakipura­m, one of the localities from where maximum dengue patients were reported. Another patient Gudiya ,30, a resident of Risaldar Park, succumbed to dengue in civil hospital late Friday night.

Three more patients-Rita Mishra, 30, of Bharatendu ward died in a private hospital, Abhinav, 28 died in a private hospital in Aliganj and Sahil, 9, a resident of Sitapur Road, also died in a private hospital.

Seventy more suspected dengue patients were reported in hospitals across the city. So far, around 1,700 suspected dengue patients have been admitted to hospitals, including private nursing homes.

Sensing the gravity of the outbreak, the health department has increased the frequency of fogging, focusing on the areas from where dengue patients are pouring in.

“Besides, we are also setting up camps and distributi­ng medicines to curb the increasing dengue menace,” said SNS Yadav, chief medical officer (CMO).

He said that the private hospitals had been directed to co-operate and to not charge exorbitant fees from patients. Yadav said strict action would be initiated against private hospitals found charging the patients excessivel­y .
