Madhya Pradesh woos tourists from Lucknow

The Madhya Pradesh state tourism developmen­t corporatio­n organized a road show in the state capital on Saturday to showcase tourist destinatio­ns in the central Indian state known for its wildlife. The road show gave a glimpse of the rich and diverse heritage of Madhya Pradesh.

“It gives MP Tourism immense pleasure to host a road show in Lucknow and to apprise residents of this city about the prosperous, diverse and colourful blend of cultures of Madhya Pradesh,” said OV Chaudhary, executive director, MP tourism.

The idea behind the initiative was to ensure more people from Lucknow visited Madhya Pradesh, he said .

To promote tourism, the Madhya Pradesh government has made a separate tourism cabinet comprising six important department­s. The first meeting of the cabinet took place in Bhopal on Friday.

“Promoting tourism is the top priority list of Madhya Pradesh government. The MP government has made a separate tourism cabinet to expedite all issues related with tourism,” said Chaudhary.

MP has the largest forest cover of 77,700 sq kms in the country, almost 33% of the total area of the state. It has nine national parks and 25 wildlife sanctuarie­s. It also has three UNESCO World Heritage sitesKhaju­raho, Bhimbetka and Sanchi.

To promote wildlife tourism, the MP government has also permitted trekking and camping in buffer areas of its nine national parks and 25 wildlife sanctuarie­s.

Madhya Pradesh is the winner of six national tourism awards. The MP tourism has also launched a new website to showcase its cultural heritage and rich flora and fauna, to attract tourists.
