LUCKNOW: Wish to take a plunge in the real world of words? Visit the 14th national book fair that was inaugurated by governor Ram Naik on Friday and will continue till October 2.

Bestseller novels will make you think twice, while cartoon characters will help relive those childhood days. Angels, goblins and funny faces, all-in-one stall, while national and international politics on the other. There are a total of 170 stalls to choose from with topics varying from spiritual, comic, politics and literature, in Hindi and English as well.

“Electronic devices like cell phones are good for quick information, but for knowledge there are only books which one should opt for,” said the governor after inaugurating the book fair.

Stalls were thronged by young and old book-lovers right on day one and even before it could be officially inaugurated. Several book lovers had already grabbed a copy of their choice. The book fair also offers a wide range of price category as there are books that are put on sale for Rs 20 to Rs 100.

“An ardent reader is one who purchases and reads as compared to those who grab a free copy, often flip through a few pages and are unable to enjoy the real benefits of books,” commented the governor whose first book as a writer is about to come next month.

“These book fairs are like flowing rivers and one can take a plunge to get their share,” said Aarti, a book-lover.

The theme of the book fair this year is women empowerment and hence, books of women authors from across the country have been made available by publication houses. There are thousands of books in various categories to choose from.
