MEERUT: Police have registered a case against ruling party’s MLA Ram Khilari Yadav (Gunnaur constituency of district Sambhal) for beating up a constable and keeping him in captivity for half-an-hour on Thursday night.

Constables of Babrala police post of Gunnaur police station – Satendra Yadav and Mehboob – went to the MLA’s residence on Thursday night to arrest the accused of a kidnapping case after being tipped off about the culprits’ presence at Ram Khilari’s house.

Satish of village Loharpura had been kidnapped four days ago for, reportedly, being unable to return a sum that he had borrowed from the accused. Cops came to know that the accused were mounting pressure on Satish’s kin to reach a compromise. The MLA, who had called both the parties to “settle the case” was reportedly upset when the cops arrived. Ram Khilari Yadav and his supporters caught hold of constable Satendra Yadav and allegedly beat him up. He was also held captive for a while.

The other constable, Mehboob reported the matter to senior police officials. Circle officer Suresh Babu Yadav rescued the captive constable and also persuaded the MLA’s supporters to hand over the accused of the kidnapping case to the police. A case was registered against the MLA on the complaint of Satendra Yadav, while a counter case was also registered against the constables (under SC/ST Act) on the complaint of a supporter of Ram Khilari Yadav.

CO Suresh Babu Yadav informed, “A case under sections 147, 332, 353 and 342 of the IPC has been registered against the MLA. A case has also been registered against the constables under sections 450, 504 of the IPC and the SC/ST Act on the complaint of one Umesh.”
