AGRA: Agra police has come up with a novel idea to check the growing number of thefts in locked houses. Policemen occupy vacant houses and lock them up from outside. Thieves walk right into the trap hoping to rob a house where residents are not around but find armed policemen waiting for them.

“This idea is already being implemented for past one and half month and has given fruitful results. It came up after various complaints received of thefts in locked houses where owners had gone away for one or other reason,” stated SP city Susheel Dhule. He further revealed that policemen have been focusing on localities where the frequency of such thefts is high. “The policemen work in coordination with locals and occupy the house lying vacant but doors are locked from outside and this acts as trap for thieves who enter to take away valuables but are trapped by armed policemen inside,” he added.

He claimed that this scheme had been yielding good results though he did not divulge number of cases in which police has tasted success. “This idea has been implemented in about half a dozen localities where more such complaints of thefts in houses were surfacing,” stated Dhule.

Agra residents had been complaining of such cases of thefts which prevented them from leaving their houses locked. “This deprives us from going to a relative or attend to the invitations or for other necessary tasks just because of fear of getting locked house robbed,” stated a denizen while applauding the novel approach.
